Crater Lake is a unique natural wonder in Oregon. Formed over 7,700 years ago, the peak of Mount Mazama, a 12,000-foot-tall volcano, collapsed and created a massive crater. Over the course of 600-800 years, rainwater and snowmelt filled the crater, resulting in the stunning lake we see today. With no streams flowing into the lake, its water has a mesmerizing deep blue color.

From mid to end of June, visitors to Crater Lake may still encounter some patches of snow, but most facilities will be open and accessible. This makes it a perfect time to visit, as you can enjoy the park without the larger summer crowds and experience a more peaceful atmosphere.

Driving the 33-mile Rim Road is a must-do activity at Crater Lake. This scenic byway provides breathtaking views of the lake from various vantage points, allowing visitors to fully appreciate its beauty. For a more immersive experience and unique perspectives, several hiking trails offer stunning views that cannot be seen from the road. If there is snow on the ground, snowshoe rentals are available at the Rim Village Gift Shop.
