Deciding when to visit Maui can be a daunting task, as there are many personal factors to consider. Such things as school schedules and vacation time can play a major role in determining the optimal time to plan your Maui vacation.

Although, in general, the best time to visit is during a shoulder season, such as April, May, September, or October. During these periods, not only will you still enjoy great weather, but you'll also experience fewer crowds and lower costs.

Maui temperature by month:

Maui can be pretty hot in the summer, with average temperatures ranging from high 80s to low 90s. However, if you're chasing the heat, this should be welcome news.

During the winter months, the leeward side of Maui has lower temperatures, with highs ranging from the high 70s to low 80s. While it is still warm, you should expect cooler temperatures, stronger winds, and the occasional need for a light layer in the evenings.

Maui rainfall by month:

Contrary to popular belief, Maui has its fair share of rainfall. Some periods of the year and locations get more rain than others. If you're looking to reduce your chances of having rain during your vacation, it's best to visit Maui between April and October and stay on the leeward side of the island in Ka'anapali/Lahaina or Wailea/Kihei. The windward side of the island has significantly higher rainfall year-round, which is why Hana has numerous beautiful waterfalls and a lush landscape.

Hurricane season in Hawaii runs from June 1st to November 30th. While hurricanes don't always occur or cause damage, it's important to be aware of this as you plan your trip. It's worth noting that Hawaii has rarely suffered damage from hurricanes, with Hurricane Lane (2018), Hurricane Iniki (1992), and Hurricane Iwa (1982) being the only three that caused significant damage.
