Unforgettable Beach Escapes in the Caribbean Islands

The Caribbean islands are the epitome of dream beach holidays, with their warm waters, sandy shores, and abundance of palm trees. Each island has its own unique paradise to offer, but we have a few personal favorites:

Best for a Secluded Romance: Petit St Vincent

Located approximately 596 miles off the coast of Venezuela, St Vincent and Grenadines consists of 32 islands, including privately-owned gems like Mustique and Petit St Vincent, which provide complete seclusion to their guests.

Mustique, a long-standing hotspot for the rich and famous, boasts nearly 100 villas spread across 1,400 acres, providing couples with the perfect escape for a romantic holiday away from the world. It's entirely possible to spend days without encountering another traveler here, if that's what you desire.

On the other hand, Petit St Vincent is much smaller (just 115 acres) and offers fewer villas. This island purposely lacks TVs and phones, with limited Wi-Fi coverage. However, the resort compensates for this by providing impeccable service through their signature flag system. Guests can hoist a yellow flag outside their cottages to request room service, transportation, or other special requests, and fly a red flag to indicate that they wish to be undisturbed.

Best for Birdwatchers: Dominica

For avid birdwatchers, Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic) is a favorite haven. This island is home to the indigenous Sisserou parrot, also known as the Imperial Amazon parrot, which inhabits the slopes of Morne Diablotin National Park and Morne Trois Pitons National Park. While shy, this bird is undeniably beautiful. Migratory birds can also be spotted from September to November and from February to March.

Dominica, known as "The Nature Island," is covered in misty rainforests and fertile slopes, and boasts a diverse range of flora, including orchids and ferns. Keep an eye out for the Bwa Kwaib, the national flower of Dominica, which is particularly known for its vibrant red blossoms.

Best for the Culturally Curious: St Kitts and Nevis

If you're looking for more than just a beach to keep you entertained, St Kitts and Nevis offers a wonderful blend of culture and relaxation. The Brimstone Hill Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site located on the island of St Kitts, sits atop a 800-foot hill and offers breathtaking views of the Caribbean waters. You can continue your sightseeing by boarding the narrow-gauge St Kitts Scenic Railway, which winds along the northwestern coastline. During the journey, the conductor will point out historical sites such as Old Road Town, where Samuel Jefferson, the great-great-grandfather of American President Thomas Jefferson, was laid to rest.

The capital city of St Kitts and Nevis, Basseterre, is bustling with vibrant markets and cricket matches. A visit to the small National Museum, not far from the cruise terminal, is also highly recommended.

Best for a Relaxing Getaway: Anguilla

Situated approximately 104 miles east of the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla boasts some of the finest beaches and crystal-clear waters in the Caribbean. Spend your days basking on pristine white-sand beaches and enjoying refreshing dips in the turquoise waters. When you're ready for a break, head to one of the beach bars for a delectable Anguillan lobster lunch and a refreshing rum punch. This low-lying island offers the ultimate retreat for an exclusive and indulgent beach escape.

Even the island's popular beach, Shoal Bay East, remains peaceful and never overcrowded. Visitors here exude a laid-back yet sophisticated vibe. In Crocus Bay, you can savor a romantic meal at the da'Vida restaurant before renting a kayak to explore Little Bay, a stunning spot perfect for snorkeling.

With ample sunshine for sunbathing on the beach and picturesque sunset sailing on calm waters, it's easy to see why Anguilla provides luxurious relaxation that can make you forget all your worries.

Anguilla

Spanning 35 square miles, Anguilla offers a choice of 33 beaches, ensuring you're never far from a relaxing spot to dip your toes in the Caribbean Sea. The trade winds here serve two purposes: providing natural air conditioning and wafting the enticing aromas of grilled lobster and crayfish prepared at the island's many roadside barbecue stands. Shoal Bay East, with its powdery white sand, is particularly popular and even attracts day trippers from neighboring St. Martin thanks to its string of rum-punch-slinging bars.

Throughout the years, this iconic property hosted illustrious guests like Baron Rothschild, David Rockefeller, Brigitte Bardot, Howard Hughes, and Greta Garbo. In 1995, the hotel was transformed into a 21st-century resort to rival the best in the world by David and Jane Matthews. Since then, through expansions, renovations, and reconstructions following Hurricane Irma, Eden Rock has evolved to offer 37 rooms, suites, and villas, including the opulent Villa Nina and Villa Rockstar.
